On this guest episode we had the pleasure of sitting down and getting vulnerable with Mimi Bouchard who is the founder of the meditation app ‘Superhuman’. Superhuman is an app that provides you with guided meditations right on your phone! You can choose to listen to meditations based on different activities such as walking, writing + getting ready. Mimi wanted to create Superhuman after spending years not treating her body with love and not knowing where to go in life. She felt that by having a space where you can meditate daily and remind yourself of what you want to be in life, it would help condition your mind and change your self-image.
Mimi's Beginnings
In the beginning of the episode, Mimi gets very open about her teen years, how she struggled with depression, an eating disorder + drugs. She didn’t care what others thought and knew her body was telling her it needed help. After dropping out of University, she felt this was her breaking point and needed to take full ownership of her life. She discovered an empowered mindset and began envisioning what she wanted out of life.
how to figure out what you want
She emphasized the importance of figuring out “what do I want?” and designing the person you want to become/desire. She stressed the importance of journaling and being with yourself. Sometimes, it’s honestly hard to sit with your own thoughts. This week, my therapist actually had me do an exercise where she had me sit with my eyes closed and connect with what was happening physically, emotionally and mentally for me in the moment. It was really uncomfortable sitting with those feelings + emotions, but this is where we have the opportunity to actually find out what our body and mind needs/wants from us. In these silent moments, we truly hear ourselves.
the power of identity
I really enjoyed the part of the episode where Carolina and Mimi spoke about identifying as who you want to be. Carolina gave the example of when she decided to start training for her half marathon, she had to identify as a runner. In order to reach our goals, we need to believe we’re going to achieve what we want. Become that person, think about your future self. Mimi spoke about how, when you change your self-image, your habits change. If we identify as someone who is going to wake up in the morning, journal, meditate, make a healthy balanced breakfast; then we will begin to create these habits and implement them in our lives.
I definitely learned a lot from this episode + we hope it resonated with you as well. Meditating can be so good for our mind, body + soul. Try out a session this week, and see how you feel!
